BAGHDAD — An Iraqi journalist who hurled his shoes at President Bush and called him a dog became a huge celebrity in the Arab world and beyond on Monday, with many supporters exalting him for what they called a courageous act in the face of American arrogance about the war.

Don't act so appalled by this incident, lest you be seen as hypocritical. Americans, who won't find shoe throwing as "nuanced" or civilized, would—in their hearts—like to give President Bush the freeway salute.

And, what was Mr. Bush's response? A joke. A man who has failed at every job he's ever had oughtn't be so arrogant.
